The entry
level
Daewoo 9000S5 Multi-region DVD Player is a cheap,
cheerful, feature-packed unit that is robust and stylish enough to sit happily
in the living room of any film fan. With the facility to play many different
disc formats, including DVD-R and DVD-RW, the
Daewoo 9000S5 can play all DVD regions straight out of the
box. It's very easy to set-up and an ideal player for those who don't have the
time or money to invest in a hugely expensive home cinema system.
What's
surprising about this unit is the number of features Daewoo has managed to pack
in for the price. Surround sound is available thanks to a Virtual Prologic
system and further Dolby and DTS sound facilities are also on hand. The light
and easy-to-use handset opens up the rest of the features, including picture
zoom (both in and out) and the usual array of book-marking, multi-angle and
menu-handling commands. In operation, theDaewoo 9000S5 is fast and responsive; disc seek times are
pretty low and in many cases the pause between layers on longer movies is
almost undetectable.
Surprisingly
for a budget DVD player, the
Daewoo 9000S5 is a polished, good-looking piece of kit,
combining style with a low profile look that makes it appear a lot more
expensive then it actually is - the only thing that lets it down is the
glaringly bright LCD display, which looks a little cheap. For a company better
known for their cars, Daewoo has done a wonderful job in producing a low-cost,
high-quality DVD player. It probably won't satisfy the more discerning
home-movie buff who has money to burn, but for the majority of home users who
want good picture quality, a high level of functionality and stylish
easy-on-the-eye looks, this is just right. |
